Is Foraging Legal in Michigan?

Cover image for a blog post. In the top left corner is a green box with text that reads: "Is Foraging Legal in Michigan? Learn the rules & bring wild food into your life! By: Luke Venechuk, IYE Foraging Instructor". A photo in the background shows a person wearing a grey, black, and white sweater holding their open hand close to the camera, showing foraged wild onions. A woven basket holding tools sits on the leaf-covered ground in the background, with a shovel next to it. The In Your Element logo is in the top right corner.

Where can I forage? What can I forage? How much can I forage?  We get a lot of questions about the legality of foraging during our foraging classes in Grand Rapids, so we’ve synthesized it all for you here!  Foraging is a great way to reconnect to the land and is also a practice ofContinue reading “Is Foraging Legal in Michigan?”

Join us in the forests of Provin Trails from 10-11am this Saturday to relax, breathe deep, explore, reconnect, and notice new details in the world around you during our Winter Forest Bathing Class, led by Katie! 🌲😌🌲 Come explore some winter wild foods with us & learn how to ID maple trees in the winter, the in’s and out’s of ethically tapping a tree, various ways to use the tree sap + more! 🍁🌳 When we arrived at this spot after the sun went down at our Winter After Dark program last night, an owl soared RIGHT above our group. It set the tone for a magical evening! We saw a herd of deer, caught glimpses of the stars and a nearly full moon, spent time with the trees, and slowed down for a grounding nature meditation near this creek, where we could hear the water babbling beneath the ice and the wind blowing in the trees. βœ¨πŸ¦‰β„οΈπŸ¦ŒπŸ•― Helloooo February! ❄️ At this time of year it can be tempting to wish away our days until summer, but nature really does hold beauty in all seasons. Excited to see MANY of you this week for two evening candlelit programs with our guide Katie! πŸ˜β„οΈπŸ•― β€œIt is the life of the crystal, the architect of the flake, the fire of the frost, the soul of the sunbeam. This crisp winter air is full of it.” Katie here! Thrilled to finally be able to share my *official* certificate as a Michigan Master Naturalist, which has been lost in transit since November. πŸ˜†πŸ“¬ A few nature highlights from January! It’s been a gloomy month, but the days I pushed myself to go outside anyway always seemed to offer me something special. πŸŒ²πŸΏπŸ™ Ahh, gotta love a backdrop of snow for a winter foraging + tree ID class! πŸ€©β„οΈ
